Are you ready to see a product that'll revolutionise technology in the 21st century? It's a product that'll change the face of the planet, save the Amazon rainforest and help reduce the hole in the ozone layer. Oh yes, hold onto your hats people, as Apple has just released the product you've all been dreaming of.

For a few months now, as well as the regular range of wired keyboards and mice, the Apple Store has also sold wireless Bluetooth versions of these peripherals that run on batteries. However, the release of the Magic Trackpad, another wireless data entry accessory, was almost certainly the impetus for Apple's revolutionary new battery charger.

While we were having a quick look at Apple's page presenting the new Magic Trackpad, we stumbled upon a little box advertising an Apple battery charger. The same little advert also crops up in the online store. The product itself may seem banal, but it's an impressive example of Cupertino's clever advertising.

Green or geek?

Has your internal geek been embroiled in a perpetual battle with your inner eco-warrior? Perhaps the green consumer inside you couldn't stand the thought of having to replace the batteries in your keyboard, mouse and now your Magic Trackpad every two months (as announced by Apple). Maybe it was breaking your heart, but the geek inside you couldn't stand the thought of using regular, boring, vanilla peripherals with wires and cables all over the place. It was an internal tug-of-war between your two inner beings that tortured your soul each time you threw the dud batteries into the bin took your dud batteries to the local recycling centre.

Saint Steve to the rescue

Apple is great, Apple is good ... and Apple is one seriously clever company when it comes to advertising. The new wonder-charger is supplied with six rechargeable batteries which, 'unlike many other reusable batteries, these batteries have an incredibly long service life — up to 10 years. Which means you can finally break the cycle of buying and disposing of those toxic, single-use alkaline batteries.' Thank you Apple, as there were no other high-capacity NiMH battery and charger sets on the market ... ahem!

That's not all though, as 'the Apple Battery charger [...] is optimised for Apple-supplied batteries and it works with AA NiMH batteries from other companies, too.' What can we say; how big of the firm to forgive us for using other brands of battery.

It doesn't end there either, as 'thanks to an intelligent power management system, the Apple Battery Charger uses less power once your batteries are fully charged, making it one of the most energy-efficient rechargeable battery solutions ever.' And it doesn't just reduce consumption a bit—oh no—as this charger uses just 30 mW, which, according to Apple, is ten times less than the average battery charger. You're sure to notice the difference on your electricity bill ... or not.

So there you go. I'm sure you'll all be racing over the Apple Store to order this revolutionary charger right now, and at £25, it's probably one of the best-value Apple products currently available.
