Behind the scenes at Samsung, Episode 4: TVs no longer

Episode 4: Simon Dongbae Lee, Principal engineer at Samsung R and D Korea has been talking about what the next 10 to 20 years hold in store for televisions. He says, they'll no longer be TVs but rather mirrors, and then windows!


Why offer such slim TVs when we really don't need them, Simon Dongbae Lee wondered to himself. True, users like a slim line, but once you've got your model into the house, either the base is what takes up the room, or you hang it off the wall and it's thickness isn't so important.

He didn't stop there: ''And what if we could create a TV that, when turned off, looks like a mirror? Or even that is transparent and takes the place of the window?"

Of course, he was trying to create an effect, though you may remember, this trend has been on the cards for some time. Last October, LG and Samsung were demoing see-through screens. And in January, Samsung also presented a laptop with a transparent screen.
