Blu-ray Sales Pick Up

Dedicated Blu-ray players have been falling in price recently, which has lead to a rise in sales in the US, according to the latest figures from NPD. Sales are up 72% for the first quarter of 2009.Compared to the same period last year, an extra 400, 000 units were sold, but manufacturer revenue only rose by 14%, confirming that prices have dropped in the past year.
According to NPD's research, the average price of Blu-ray players has fallen by around 34% and now sits at around 261 US dollars. Even so, annual sales for 2009 are only predicted to be around 12 million, excluding PlayStation 3 consoles.
