CES: Altec a stylish comeback with the VS 4621 and inMotion Compact

After a long period of silence Altec Lansing are back with some daringly designed audio devices. They would seem to be getting a good reception with more new atypical products announced at CES.

The first is an iPod dock. Following the inMotion Mix, and inMotion Classic, here’s the inMotion Compact iMT320. With no wireless remote or FM tuner, the speakers have also been reduced to a diameter of a couple of inches. At 10.1 x 24.4 x 4.6 cm, the inMotion Compact has been announced at $79 in the States. We might expect to see it at £49.99 if we could count on current exchange rates but it will more probably come in at £69.99.

We continue with a 2.1 kit that at last replaces the VS4121, that I am calling the VS4621 here. It adopts the industrial style of the premium range (the expressionists, see the 2.1 speakers product survey), and, more particularly, that used for the expressionist BASS.

Indeed, although this is a 2.1 kit, both satellites are equipped with mid-range speakers at the bottom of the casing, projecting downwards. The subwoofer seems to be a simple restyling of the one previously used by Altec. It has also been announced at $79.
