We're only too aware that our Product Survey of camcorders is little out-of-date.
Don't worry, though, we're working on bringing it right up to date.
Our selection here is based on our preliminary results and some of the best stills cameras which can cut it with other camcorders out there.
Given that a lot of them now support Full HD, do you really need two separate bits of kit?

Budget Buyer: Panasonic Lumix FX37 An excellent digital still camera that also films in 720p HD. You'll need a large a large SDHC memory card to make the best of it, and be careful to check your software, as it record .MOV files, not always compatible with entry-level editing software.
