Dialogue with Iggy Pop on the net

Tomorrow, April 26th at 11 am, French time, Iggy Pop will be giving press conference live on the net on his site, during which he will reply to questions and give us a pre-hearing of several songs from his new album, Preliminaires, which is to be released on May 18th.

The artist's label EMI says he will talk about his love of French culture, as well as the influence the writer Michel Houellebecq has had on him. In this subtitled trailer posted on Youtube, Iggy Pop announces that he created this album for France and that he sings one of the new songs on his album in the language of Molière... or should we say Houellebecq.

"It's a quieter album with jazz overtones. That's because, at one point I just got sick of all those idiot thugs with guitars and I've been hanging out listening to music from the New Orleans era, Louis Amstrong, Jerry Roll Morton, that type of jazz", he explains. "And there's an inspiration behind this record that allowed me to do that," he adds, "and that's a novel by Michel Houellebecq', a great novel, a funny novel called The Possibility of an Island." Indeed, Iggy Pop was asked to do the music for a documentary on the adaptation of the book to the screen. His new album is directly inspired by Houellebecq's book, taking him on a similar path to Tom Waits. A more promising path, in any case than any philosphical duel with Bernard Henry Levi.
