Transcend StoreJet 25C 320 GB

Pierre-Jean Alzieu
Test date: February 19, 2009
StoreJet Elite

This StoreJet 25C comes with a software suite of various programmes, including file synchronisation, a compressor and a data encoder. You can also get access to your mail via a simple synchronisation with a piece of messaging software, or link to the favourites on your web navigator.

After the StoreJet 2.5 SATA 250 GB, Transcend is updating its external disk drive range with the StoreJet 25C 320 GB. Its casing has been totally changed. There’s a large chrome section on the top which gives it an elegant design. In terms of connectivity, it still has the single USB 2.0 socket and still no eSata, which is a shame.

Faster transfer rates

The previous 2.5 inch StoreJet disappointed us in terms of its mediocre write speeds. This one does better. With an average read speed of 33.6 MB/s, it is up with the Maxtor One Touch 4 Mini, currently the fastest in our comparison. Write speeds of 26.5 MB/s also make it one of the fastest in the range. This new version raises our esteem of the brand.

USB 2.0 (MB/s)

Pluses

-

Elegant design

-

Strong case

-

Good read and write speeds

Minuses

-

No FireWire or eSata

This 2.5 inch StoreJet has restored our faith in Transcend. As well as being elegant, it has very good read and and write transfer rates. Finger marks however do show up very clearly on the casing.
