Panasonic has just announced a new 3D Blu-Ray player for the end of the month of September: the DMP-BDT100. It will be priced at around £250.

Following the DMP-BDT300 which had an RRP of around £500 on release, Panasonic are now bringing out the DMP-BDT100. This 3D Blu-Ray player is a lite version of the DMP-BDT300. Out goes the second HDMI 1.4 socket, the DMP-BDT100 makes do with a single digital 1.4 out. For the rest, you'll find the following:

Panasonic DMP-BDT100

  • CD, DVD, Blu-ray, and 3D Blu-ray playback
  • PHL (Panasonic Hollywood Laboratories) video processing
  • BD-Live (with the addition of a 1 GB minimum memory card) / BD Profile 2.0
  • 7.1 audio analogue outs
  • 1080p/24Hz compatibility
  • USB and SD-Card players
  • DLNA and internet connectivity to access Vieracast. Wi-Fi on option via USB dongle.
  • Built-in multimedia playback

Note that for the last point, during the DMP-BDT300 test, the multimedia player turned out to be pretty mediocre. Unfortunately, Panasonic has probably used the same software for the DMP-BDT100. In addition to the lack of NTFS compatibility, the list of supported formats will be short: JPEG images, MP3s (music) with tag support and DivX5 and 6 in SD and HD (video).
