IFA: digital photo frames hone their style

While the crucial period for digital photo frames is approaching, manufacturers are making an effort to market products with more allure, sometimes even daring to go beyond the glossy-black that you see everywhere. Moreover, the next generation of frame has maxed out memory. The touch interface is also, of course, becoming more common.

In spite of a small fall in the overall value of the market, general consumer demand for photo frames is still strong. And manufacturers continue to develop their ranges to respond to demand. While the frames tended to resemble each other a lot at first – a shame for an ornamental product – except for a few high-end models signed by various designers, we have noticed a change over the last few months.
Several more original models are starting to appear. Two new designs in particular: the base and the screen/frame ensemble made from the same mould (LG, AgfaPhoto), or the screen resting on a rectangular base (Samsung). Generally speaking this new format looks better in profile than most frames that are just designed to be looked at from the front. Seemingly the end has come for ugly bases that in any case are not always easy to fix a screen onto…
LG is presenting a new finer-edged frame (rare) made out of a matte black or white rubber material (even rarer). Samsung have applied the ''Crystal'' concept developed for TVs and screens, adding touch technology for navigation.

Touch navigation, but not on the screen
With two opposing styles, both products have their appeal. As expected you can play video and audio on these models they have an internal memory of 2 GB, very welcome on a type of product that up until now had very reduced capacity. They can also be used as a computer screen display.

The F12 series from LG: a white frame! Shame the power cable is still black
