We're a bit disappointed. We've been waiting for Mitsubishi to come out with an LED/laser projector for a while now, but at this year's IFA, the manufacturer instead announced a 3D model. What is surprising, though, is that it'll be based on Sony's SXRD technology.
The name and spec of this new 3D model are subject to change between now and its scheduled release date in November, but for the moment it's called the HC Premium and it might look something like this.
Tech specs given so far are:
As it's still essentially a prototype, we're not going to go into too much detail about it just yet. However, two questions do spring to mind: how will it compare to the Sony VPL-VW90ES, (also 3D and SXRD) and how much will it cost?

The name and spec of this new 3D model are subject to change between now and its scheduled release date in November, but for the moment it's called the HC Premium and it might look something like this.

Tech specs given so far are:
- SXRD panels
- Full HD: 1920 x 1080 pixels
- Brightness: 1,000 lumens
- Contrast: 120,000:1
- Bulb lifespan: 4,000 hours
- Motorised zoom and focusing
As it's still essentially a prototype, we're not going to go into too much detail about it just yet. However, two questions do spring to mind: how will it compare to the Sony VPL-VW90ES, (also 3D and SXRD) and how much will it cost?
There's more to life than just 3D
As well as announcing a 3D projector, Mitsubishi also presented the HC4000, an upgraded version of the HC3800 (and not the HC3900, as we initially suspected). This 1080p Full HD model should be available in the autumn for £1,000-£1,500 (TBC). A quick look at the spec shows nothing out of the ordinary, except perhaps the use of a DLP Darkchip 3 processor, which can improve the depth of black.
