Kinect Pricing Unveiled

UPDATE 26/07/2010: UK pricing now confirmed at £130 for the Kinect system alone or £250 bundled with an Xbox 360 Slim.

Microsoft has finally announced suggested retail prices for its Kinect controller-free motion gaming system for the Xbox. So far only US pricing has been released, with the Kinect control system announced at $150 or bundled with an Xbox 360 (no hard drive) for $299.

Given that some manufacturers seem completely oblivious to exchange rates, we wouldn't be surprised to see similar figures in sterling.  
Anyone who buys the Kinect bundled with a console will probably want to invest in a hard drive to boost the Xbox's 4 GB internal memory. You can count on paying around £30 for a 20 GB hard drive or £60-£70 for the 250 GB version. That pushes the price up considerably, especially when you can get the Nintendo Wii with two games and a controller for under £200.

Microsoft will have to offer a good selection of games if it's hoping to shift a respectable amount of Kinect systems, as, don't forget, it can't be used to control any old Xbox 360 game, but only certain compatible titles more likely to interest occasional gamers.
