Singer Lily Allen is one of the stars of Twitter (1,516,133 followers) and a fervent supporter of anti-pirating measures in the UK. In her recent blog, "It’s not Alright", she made known her opinion in an attempt to draw attention to the damaging effects of illegal file sharing on artists and the music industry.Members of the online media had a closer look at her blog and found that she herself was not immune to the many infranctions she was detailing. It started with TorrentFreak, who noticed that sections of her blog were actually cut and paste from the site Techdirt. In turn Techdirt found that Lily Allen herself was offering mixtapes for free download containing songs by other artists for which she didn’t have the rights.
As a result of the critical comment received on her site, the singer decided, in order but without the decisions necessarily being linked, to:
1 – put an end to her singing career;
2 – leave the pirating debate and pass the baton to other artists;
3 – close down her site It’s not Alright - announced on Twitter
Hard the life of an artist defending their right not to be pirated!
