Effective 19 October, Intel will be reducing the price of some of its existing processors to make way for new models.

The Santa Clara based manufactuer will be taking around 5-15% off the lines it sells to other hardware developers--the prices shown here in US dollars are only available commercially in batches of one thousand CPUs.

Model Former Price (per 1000) New Price (per 1000) Change
Intel Pentium Dual Core E2220 84 $ 74 $ - 11.9 %
Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 74 $ 64 $ - 13.5 %
Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 - 133 $ -
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 133 $ 113 $ -15.0 %
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 224 $ 193 $ -13.8 %
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 193 $ 183 $ - 5.2 %

As you can see, the entry-level price for a quad core processor continues to fall, with the Core 2 Quad Q6600 slipping below 150 euros for the first time.  Although only marginally more expensive, the Core 2 Quad Q8200 offers improved energy efficiency but no gain in performance.

Following these adjustments, the next step will be the arrival of the Intel i7 line, which is expected to arrive next month.
