Burst Mode Test

Over thirty photos, this card allowed our test camera's burst mode to take off. In practice, that keeps up with the three photos per second without batting an eyelid, the maximum rate our camera can produce.

At first sight, you'd be forgiven for thinking that SanDisk had extended its memory card range by addding this SDHC Extreme 16 GB Class 10.  Look more closely, though, and it seems that this card seems to be a version of the Extreme III that meets the Class 10 standard.  The minimum write speed for the standard is 10 MB/s, something that a lot of SDHC cards are capable of.

Renaming cards: after Nvidia and ATI, now it's SanDisk's turn

Our lab tests proved our earlier suspicions.  This 'new' card is nothing of the sort, and i simply a renamed Extreme III.  For writing photo files, the Extreme 16 GB Class 10 produced an excellent result of 18.2 MB/s, and obtained a new record with 19.4 MB/s for reading the same files.  That allows it to climb straight to the top of the table, alongside its close relative the Extreme III.

As you might expect, the renamed version of the Extreme III, the Extreme Class 10, is excellent. Its speeds beat all of our recods, and will be suitable for any kind of digital camera.
