Burst Mode Test

The high speeds on offer with this card handled our burst of 30 photos without breaking a sweat. It showed itself capable of recording up to three photos per second, the maximum output of our test camera.

We've tested one of SanDisk's Extreme III Class 6 cards before.  The 4 GB version's excellent results ensured it got our top score of five stars, and today, it's the turn of the 16 GB versin to visit our lab.  Let's take a look and see if the excellent speeds that we found on the lower-capacity model are also available here.

Same excellent speeds

We've compared the results, and the 16 GB version of the SanDisk Extreme III isn't any slower than the 4 GB--it's actually slightly faster.  During a test that involveds copying photo files on to the card, the 16 GB reached 17.9 MB/s, while the 4 GB version was at 16.4 MB/s.  The gap between the two is less pronounced for read speeds, with the two cards showing speeds of 19.4 MB/s and 18.3 MB/s respectively.  Once agaim, SanDisk has produced an excellent memory card.

The Extreme III is without a doubt the fastest SDHC out there. With speeds of 15.1 MB/s for writing data and 18.6 MB/s for reading, SanDisk leaves the competition in the dust.
