SD and SDHC Card Reviews >

Transcend made a good impression with its Class 6 SDHC 4 GB card.  Here we have another Class 6 but without the « 150x » and especially with a doubled capacity at 8 GB.   Overall, the cards don't resemble each other and results were actually quite different.

An excellent card in reading but mediocre in writing

Reading speeds were very good at 17.9 MB/s on our series of large files.  FYI, you can transfer this card's 8 GB in 7mn30 while it requires 8mn30 for the Transcend 4 GB 150x whose speed is 15.8 MB/s.   In writing, the situation changes and we obtained some of the poorer scores of this survey.  With a maximum of 6.1 MB/s, it is very far from the ATP ProMax and its 15.6 MB/s.  This slow speed is felt in our reflex test where in a series of 30 shots a change of rhythm is perceptible starting at the 14th photo.

Pluses

-

Excellent reading speeds

-

Interesting price per GB

Minuses

-

Disastrous writing speeds

-

Doesn't combine too well with a reflex in burst mode

Test results from this model were very bizarre. In reading, it's the jackpot with excellent speeds. On the other hand for writing, it's a catastrophe. Avoid this card if you plan on really getting the use out of your reflex's burst mode.
