Microsoft ballot screen: two weeks on

Since the start of this month, Windows users have seen a ballot screen, inviting them to download and use an alternative browser in place of Internet Explorer.

The system, which was imposed on Microsoft by the European Commission, provoked a lot of discussion both on and offline.  Would the new-found prominence of these alternative browsers bring them more market share?  Well, two weeks after the roll-out of the ballot screen, we haven't noticed much change ...

 
The only real development is a fall in the number of Firefox 3.5 users, who have all migrated to the much better Firefox 3.6.  Our readers aren't necessarily representative of the whole world, of course, and given that less than a third of you are using IE, we can't really say that Microsoft's browser dominates on your computers …
