Netbooks Not Immune to Recession

The reception that we're currently experiencing doesn't let anything stand in its way, and even netbooks, low-cost computers often sold by mobile phone networks, are feeling its effects.

According to a report over at TG Daily, Intel has reported falling sales of the Atom processors found in the majority of netbooks in the first quarter of 2009.   Acer, Asus and MSI have all also missed their sales targets for the same period.

Acer, the current leader by market share, still managed to sell 2 million netbooks, but Asus only shifted 900, 000 units, when they had hoped to move a million. 

The news that netbook sales might not be as strong as hoped for will disappoint hardware companies who are keen to push these affordable products as a way to shore up revenue lost elsewhere.
