When I tested the Panasonic PT-AE4000E projector I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the calibration settings I gave in the inset section of the product test. No matter how much I succeeded in correcting the gamma curve, the grey scale simply refused to give up its pink tinge. It was driving me crazy not being able to fix it.

Refusing to admit defeat, in the end I asked Panasonic to send me back their flagship, top-of-the-range model so I could have another go at adjusting its settings.

The new settings

First of all, set the colour temperature to -3. Then, go to the advanced picture settings menu and enter the following values:
  • Red contrast: 0
  • Green contrast: 0
  • Blue contrast: +12
  • Red brightness: -2
  • Green brightness: 0
  • Blue brightness: 0

Don’t forget to correct the gamma curve using the values given in the Panasonic PT-AE4000E product test (in the grey box on the right).

With these new settings, the grey scale goes from this:
To this:
The moral of the story is, that even with a sensor and a projector worth several thousand pounds, you can still end up with an inaccurate picture if you’re not using the right settings. So don’t forget to calibrate your projector, TV or monitor!
