Like the rest of the printed press in the US, the magazine Wired has seen its advertising revenue plummet.According to the Media Industry Newsletter, that reports on the health of the printed press in the US Wired is one of the titles on the verge of going bust, having lost around half of its advertising pages.
Founded in 1993, the magazine that accompanied the digital revolution is not managing to earn the money it needs with its website (free). Its editor in chief, Chris Anderson, speaking about the crisis to the New York Times said that one of the solutions they are studying is an increase in the price of the magazine. He said that the media group CondéNast is supporting Wired for the moment but won’t indefinitely.
Note from Digital Versus: in Europe, the situation is hardly any better. Some of the best known hi-tech printed magazines are also in major difficulties. The profession of IT journalism is increasingly problematic: editorial teams are slimming down, full timers are being replaced by freelancers, the web revolution has not carried the big media groups with it. Digital Versus and its parent site LesNumériques are doing well: they are an exception. Thanks to you!
