To face up to the formidable collection of announcements from Microsoft at the E3 conference, Sony had plenty of new games to show off during its own presentation. It began with some very exciting demos of games that were announced a few weeks ago, including Uncharted 2, MAG, which will be available online for up to 256 players, Assassin's Creed 2 and Final Fantasy XIII, before moving on to the eagerly-awaited The Last Guardian, Gran Turismo 5 and God of War III.
There was also a surprise in store, with the announcement of a new game called Agent, produced by Rockstar North (the people behind the Grand Theft Auto franchise), which is set in the world of espionage during the Cold War.
The launch of Final Fantasy XIV was also an interesting development, given that version XIII is still not yet available, but it will be a massively-multiplayer version of the game that follows on directly from Final Fantasy XI.
The last new game to be announced at E3 was ModNations Racers, an online fantasy driving gam, not unlike Mario Kart, in which almost everything is customisable, including drivers, vehicles and tracks, with users able to exchange content in Sony's LittleBigPlanet online community.
PlayStation 3 users won't be stuck for things to do in the coming months, then, especially with their platform the only one to enjoy all of the games mentioned here, with the exception of Assassin's Creed 2 and Final Fantasy XIII.
