Rumour: A Premium App Store for the iPhone?

The average price of an App Store application seems to be melting like snow in the first rays of sunshine. Many are free and most of them sell for very little. Rumour now has it that Apple might be about launch a new high-end category for its Premium applications.


Browse the US websites and you will read it everywhere; the new section would have nothing under a $20 price tag. According to Instat, the average price of an application has gone down circa 20% over the last couple of months (from 3,15 dollars to 2,55 dollars).
It will come as no surprise that this price slash has in return created an increase in individual sales.
It is however always opportune to provide something more and cater for everyone. Apple might be doing just that with this much-rumoured Premium service.
This would also be an opportunity to shed light on the really useful applications that are at the moment drowned in the midst of more trivial software. The new section would probably include offerings from larger game developers but also business applications. It could also be a means to prevent developers and publishers from looking towards other maybe more lucrative application platforms such as those by Microsoft, Nokia, and RIM.

Apple has not confirmed any of these App Store Premium speculations.
