The Samsung N510 was the first netbook to use the Nvidia ION chipset but it's been losing ground to competitors with better hardware and lower prices. It won't give up without a fight though, and is now back on sale in a new 'Premium' version which has a few surprising additions.
Along with general hardware improvements, which include 2 GB of RAM, a 250 GB hard drive and an upgrade to Windows 7 Premium, the new N510 has a glossy display!
So Samsung's only ION laptop gains a title in terms of performance, but loses its main advantage, a matte finish on the screen. All of its main rivals have glossy screens but cost a lot less.
At these prices, a Samsung N510 will cost you almost £100 than an Asus Eee PC 1201N, despite the latter having better hardware. Its dual-core Intel Atom CPU allows the ION chipset to shine, improving the graphics performance.
We're testing the Samsung N510 Premium at the moment, and we'll let you know what this new version is like soon--and whether or not the glossy screen is as bad as we fear.
