Samsung Presents the First 50-inch 3D Plasma TV for Under £1,000

Over in Korea, Samsung has presented a 50-inch 3D plasma TV with a pre-order price equivalent to under £1,000. Say hello to the PN50C490.

On closer inspection, the PN50C490 is actually priced at $1,099, or at $989 for pre-orders.

To push down the price of the PN50C490, Samsung has had to make savings on its components. The manufacturer has, for example, used a 50-inch panel with a native resolution of 720p instead of 1080p. You'll therefore have to sit well back from the screen if you don't want to be bugged by the lack of definition. Another cost-cutting measure is that no 3D glasses are supplied with the TV as standard. Samsung does, however, make the most affordable 3D glasses on the market, currently selling at around £55 for a battery operated models or around £65 for pairs with a rechargeable battery.

As yet there's no release date or any other information on this TV, but we'll keep you posted as soon as we know more.
