Two speedy black-and-white printers have joined our line-up: the Brother HL-5350DN and the HP LaserJet P2035. Both promise speeds of up to 30 pages per minute, with the first page appearing in under ten seconds. As ever, though, our tests threw up a few surprises. Whether it was the difference between normal and quiet modes, or the time it took to produced the first page after coming out of standby, these two printers--which look very similar on paper--proved they were in fact different animals. There were also notable differences in how they converted colours to black-and-white and how much they cost to run.
