The DLNA standard: a real mess?

The DLNA standard has a simple objective: to facilitate communication between all your multimedia devices so you can access your music, photos and video more easily. A nice idea...TVs, phones, digital cameras, video cameras, hifi systems, computers, multimedia players, games consoles… all these devices you can view or listen to your various audio, video and photo files on! Transferring them from one device to another is sometimes a lengthy business however: you have to copy them onto a memory card and then onto the media you want them on, or use connection cables and follow a complex transfer protocol.
This is where the DLNA standard comes in: the Digital Living Network Alliance
