The PS3 ''Fat'' - worldwide bug!

The world's most popular gaming console and Blue-Ray player is suffering from a worldwide bug. Older "fat" models (as opposed to the new Slim) are affected on connection to the net, making connection to the PlayStation Network (PSN) impossible and blocking any number of games. If you haven't yet connected your PS3, don't do so before the problem is resolved.

In the meantime, Sony is correcting the problem, so don't panic, your console is fine and isn't about to implode. That said, it is best not to connect it to the net and take the precaution of copying any saved games and trophies in offline mode. The bug doesn't affect the PS3 Slim.

Since midnight last night, as the clock ticked onto March 1st 2010, all consoles made in 2009 suffered the same internal clock error, reinitialising it to January 1st 2000! The year 2000 bug come back to bite us?!!

This makes it impossible to connect to PSN, or to play downloaded games (even offline) and impossible to access trophies. Instead you get error message "8001050F" coming up on your screen. It also looks as if this makes it impossible to play some games on Blu-ray, Heavy Rain and Fifa10 amongst them.

An official Sony communiqué has been put online on the PlayStation blog. Additional information is available on the official  PlayStation Twitter page.
