WWDC: Apple unveils new greener 13'', 15'' and 17'' MacBook Pros

Yesterday, Apple unveiled what it promises is nothing short of ''the world's greenest lineup of notebooks.''


The Nvidia 9400M chipset is once again the star of the show in the new extended range of MacBook Pros, which now includes a 13'' version of the aluminium laptop.  Some users will be glad to hear that FireWire 800 is back, while the fixed battery that can only be replaced by Apple, first introduced in the 17'' MacBook Pro, has now been extended across the range promising two key improvements: up to seven hours of battery life and up to five hours before you'll need to have the battery replaced.  Apple is keen to stress the ecological benefit of this move, as its computers only require one battery in the sale time that PC laptops use three.


The basic range of MacBook Pros now include the following:

• The new 13'' MacBook Pro starts at £899 (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26 GHz, 2 GB RAM and 160 GB hard drive)

• The 15'' version starts at £1, 299 (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM and 250 GB hard drive)

• The 17'' version is £1, 849 (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz, 4 GB RAM and 500 GB hard drive)

If you're keen for something more powerful than one of these standard offerings, you can customise your new Mac laptop to include up to 8 GB of RAM and choose between either a 500 GB hard drive or a 256 GB SSD drive.
